- Appointment to begin approximately February 2014, pending position clearance and availability of funding. This position serves as the Summer Session Coordinator for the College of Continuing Education and Community Service at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans, directs and supervises program operations to include the promulgation, implementation, and maintenance of summer session policies, procedures, practices and systems.
- Administers, coordinates and evaluates a broad-based summer session program in such areas as programming, class building, personnel processing, financial accounting, procurement and purchasing, and budget formation and execution.
- Reviews system fiscal reports, determines account balances, analyzes and evaluates program expenditures, and prepare financial reports for the dean.
- Coordinates auxiliary and ancillary support services as needed, included but not limited to facility use reservations, class time and room scheduling, registration and payment monitoring.
- Plans and implements marketing and recruitment strategies for summer classes and programs.
- Provides support in student registration using online Banner system and manually as required.
- Serves as acting dean in the dean’s absence.
- Occasional work during evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education and other related fields and 2 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for program coordination; or equivalent education/training or experience.
- Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the program coordination field as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
- Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with program coordination.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
- For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
- Valid driver's license.
- Understanding and application of effective marketing technology and techniques.
- Ability to plan programming that is responsive to student needs and within the mission of the institution.
Desirable Qualifications
- Possession of a program coordination certification or specialized training.
- Possession of a Master’s degree in Education or related area.
- Four years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for program coordination.
- Knowledge of the island of Hawai`i, specifically its people and communities.
- Knowledge of UH administrative processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of multi-media marketing and publicity techniques.
