Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Recommends effective interventions to assist the campus in preventing DMCA and copyright violations as well as inappropriate information management practices that put sensitive data at risk for breaches

  2. Performs a wide range of information technology security duties such as but not limited to problem solving, securing of computers, research, coordinating analysis, forensics, (continued below)

  3. working with internal college, university, external agencies, professional information technology/security associations and campus constituents including staff, faculty, and administrative bodies.

  4. Develops and maintains records related to information technology security as appropriate for reporting and monitoring.

  5. Applies knowledge of security principles and practices, intrusion detection systems, understanding of security protocols and standards, intranet and internet security.

  6. Provides technical support for UHMC’s outreach centers.
  7. Install, configure, troubleshoot, and repair computing and networking equipment.
  8. Utilizing remote administration techniques, load, configure, and update classroom computing equipment.
  9. Serve as the contact for UHMC’s Outreach Center networking problems, including WAN, Internet and HITS difficulties.
  10. Train outreach staff in the use of new software and equipment.
  11. Responsible for the development and delivery of a basic information security program for the campus.

  12. Function as an internal consulting resource on information security issues and interpret university policies related to information security.

  13. Researches applicable hardware and software in information security and malware infection prevention.
  14. Coordinate security orientation and security awareness programs for campus employees.

  15. Responsible for coordinating and overseeing campus wide compliance with state and federal rules, laws, regulations regarding confidentiality, integrity, security, and use of information assets for the college.

  16. Provide basic guidance to campus administrators in the area of information security.
  17. Establishes and maintains appropriate network of professional contacts.
  18. Maintains currency with professional organizations and publications.

  19. Prepares and publishes security alerts on good security practice for use by campus employees.
  20. Keeps abreast of changes in IT and security technology, trends, changes in rules, regulations, laws, policies, procedures at the university, state and federal levels.
  21. Serves as the campus' level expert with respect to IT security and compliance.
  22. Under general supervision, assessments, judgments and decisions are considered authoritative.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. As typically acquired/evidenced by pertinent baccalaureate educational degree and 1 year(s) of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for networking and information security or equivalent education/training or experience.; possession of the following competencies in technical knowledge, critical thinking skills, communication skills and interpersonal skills:
  2. Functional knowledge of technologies, systems, hardware and software associated with information security and malware prevention demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply principles, concepts, methodology and terminology.
  3. Functional knowledge and understanding of technology, systems, hardware and software associated with Microsoft Windows, Macintoshes, and Unix.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve routine problems.
  5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  7. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  8. Demonstrated ability to: recognize user, hardware or software problems, identify possible causes and resolve routine problems.
 Perform routine OS and software maintenance to ensure systems are utilizing current software.
  9. Knowledgeable of how to handle a possible breach of personal/sensitive information, i.e. what immediate steps should be taken in an investigation, issues such as but not limited to legal requirements, public relations, forensics, etc.
  10. Experience in training others from various audiences in safe computing practices and safe handling of sensitive information.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Knowledge of troubleshooting procedures and practices for hardware, software and networks in a TCP/IP or related environment.

  2. Community College work experience.

  3. Knowledge of the definitions of personal information and sensitive information as defined in state, federal, institutions of higher learning, laws, rules, regulations, and policies and procedures
