 Summary of Duties:
Takes verbatim records of civil, criminal, and Grand Jury court proceedings; transcribes and certifies typewritten transcripts; and performs other duties as required.
 Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Education Requirement: Graduation from high school. Work experience which required the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Stenographic Requirement: Applicants must demonstrate the ability to take verbatim dictation at:
  1. 225 words per minute in question and answer testimony;
  2. 200 words per minute in jury charges;
  3. 180 words per minute in literary;
and transcribe such dictation at an acceptable rate.
In the "Work Experience" section of the application, please describe your duties and responsibilities in detail for each employer in which your work experience included court reporting utilizing computer-aided transcription (CAT) and/or court reporting experience in the Federal and/or State Courts system.

License Requirement: Applicants must possess a current certificate as a Hawai'i Certified Shorthand Reporter issued by the Supreme Court through the Hawai'i Board of Certified Shorthand Reporters. Applicants must show evidence of license requirement by submitting a copy of a current Hawai'i Certified Shorthand Reporter Renewal Card, at the time of application.
