Under the supervision of EES Hawaiian Culture Based Education department administration, the Bus Monitor supervises and assists students transported to and from school in KS buses and/or chartered buses. He/she assists the driver with ensuring comfortable, safe transportation services, oversees the safety and order of students while loading, and with riding/unloading the bus.
Assists students while loading and disembarking the bus in a safe manner.
Monitor student behavior and maintain student safety at designated program bus sites.
Reports discipline problems to HCBE Administration using a written referral form.
In conjunction with the Transportation Department and KS administrators, determines and insures adherence to policies and procedures for KS bus riders.
Renders first aid to pupils on an emergency basis as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Bus stop locations:-Konawaena High School -Kealakehe High School -Honoka'a High School -Kamuela Post Office -Kohala High School -Waikoloa Highlands Subway
NOTE: This position does not include riding the bus. Bus sites vary within regions.
Position Requirements
Five years bus monitor or childcare experience may be substituted for high school diploma.
Ability to communicate with and understand the needs of the students.
Ability to provide positive role modeling to pupils.
Ability to complete in-service training in Hawaii State Department of Transportation regulations, KS policies and procedures, safety and first aid, bus evacuation procedures and other related subjects.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including split shifts.
*Work Schedule may vary depending upon the bus that the monitor is scheduled to ride on for that day.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a bus monitor or child-care worker
Good communication skills.
Experience with, or interest in, Hawaiian culture and language.
First Aid Training Certification.
Educational Requirements
High School diploma or GED equivalent. Five years bus monitor or childcare experience may be substituted for high school diploma.
