Responsibilities:
Summary
The primary responsibility of this position is the efficient investigation and handling of commercial property and casualty claims involving moderate damage, injury, litigation and coverage issues with an emphasis on strong communication and customer service, while utilizing state specific guidelines.

Main Responsibilities:
- Initiate the investigation of new claims, make liability decisions, and evaluate and negotiate settlements of moderate Bodily Injury and Property Damage claims.
- Understand and apply state specific laws and regulations.
- Review each claim for coverage issues, utilize coverage attorney opinions, and work with supervisors to resolve.
- Establish reserve setting in accordance with company policy.
- Summarize and make recommendations for the disposition of claims in excess of individual settlement authority.
- Refer lawsuits to properly approved defense attorneys, and direct their handling, including the authorization of discovery actions and motions practice.
- Review, audit and pay invoices of independent adjusters, defense experts, attorneys, and other vendors in timely manner.
- Summarize large losses, and present findings to upper management, reinsurers and other appropriate departments.
- Participate in Claim Reviews with large accounts.
- Document claim file notes clearly, with all communications and activities that occur during handling of the claim, using factual and objective information.
- Manage a diary system to systematically review and resolve claims within company and state compliance guidelines.
- Attend mediations, depositions, and trials, as required in various jurisdictions.
- Obtain/maintain a non-resident adjuster license and/or bar membership in various states.
- Other duties as assigned by the claims supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years experience handling coverage investigations, moderate physical damage, PIP/Medpay/No-Fault and auto liability claims, including litigated files, or equivalent experience.
- Commercial auto, general liability and multi-state experience are helpful.
- Claims designation and/or state licensing are a plus.
- Knowledge of insurance coverage issues a plus.
- Must be able to interpret policies, perform analytical research and investigations, and make sound judgments from data and records collected.
- Travel Requirements: 1-10%
